Founded in Bangalore in June 2006, the practice is headed by architects Ashok Dutta and Meghana Dutta.
The firm’s works are an effort to produce an enriched environment through the overlapping connections to design, context, environment, engineering as well as processes of production.Projects at the firm include among others Office campuses, Institutional Campuses, Multi-family housing, Single-family homes, Interiors, Retail, Hospitality, Healthcare, Industrial infrastructures, Corporate, Residential and Retail Interiors.
The firm’s works has been recognized globally through publications and features. The office is a highly collaborative practice comprising of a team of architects, interior designers, technologists, administrative managers, interns from multiple disciplines and assistants.
At Studio Decode Academia is integrated into the rigor of the practice. Architectural education, Research in architecture and Architectural practice are interdependent and interconnected. Critical Analysis of architectural theory and research are built into the core of practice. The collective of the Practice and Academia in the same ecosystem, enriches the practice.
India is a country that has been lived in continuously for many thousands of years. This continuous habitation has allowed many ideas to be experimented and successfully implemented. For us architects there is an immense existing knowledgebase we can tap into and be inspired from. However, we live at a time like no other before where the world is united with a singular ethos and aspirations. ….where global is local or ‘GLOCAL’ which is a common term to define this phenomenon. At Studio Decode it is our effort to tap into this exhaustive local knowledgebase that exist with GLOCAL aspirations to weave strategies that allow us to deliver products that has a thumb on the global pulse of aspiration.

Being a multidisciplinary firm we work on all scales and almost have worked on all typologies. Doing work on various scales and typologies we are able to bring cross disciplinary learnings to our projects and in turn allowing us to build better built ecosystems layered with a rich knowledgebase, thought process, analysis and understanding of the industry. We are able to bring in out of the box thinking, innovativeness and astute problem solving to all our projects.
Sustainability has been a large part of the Studio Decode DNA. Our solutions not only responds to the challenges of today but also challenges of the future. Having designed some of the greenest buildings in the country sustainability has allowed us to align our built solutions to the immediate context of the built and engage cultural practices to an otherwise highly globalized local ‘GLOCAL’.
With many years of experience and with global exposure in built practices we have learnt optimization of economical practices for the client and for the built ecosystem to achieve best results. Lessons in localized urbanism and borrowings from the local eclectic forms a large part of our design sensibility.

As an architecture + design practice for over 18 years the challenges have been many. We have had to grow strength to strength and meet each challenge head on. We are a 35 people firm and with growth have come challenges of structure, expertise, staff, capabilities etc. We have successfully nurtured a second tier of leaders after the Founders/ Principals who have been able to anchor many verticals of the firm. We are also a multi-disciplinary firm who work on many typologies of various scales. Engaging in the diversity keeps us invested and works of the firm interesting but also has its challenges of building capabilities. Technical capabilities along with managerial capabilities sometimes spread across different geographical location have been key areas of focus. As the team in the office has grown we have also had to look at how the internal dynamics work through efficient HR management. Adopting technology and keeping all experience levels of the firm well acquainted is also a challenge.
The team at Studio Decode is 29 strong, comprising of architects, interior designers, technologists, administrative managers, intern architects and assistants.
